The great dream of winning a medal at the Para-cycling World Championships road race in Denmark was ended on Friday 26th August.

National team cyclist Michal Stark was involved in a collision when a car driver failed to stop at a junction. Michal survived, but suffered three broken ribs and a broken shoulder blade. To make it worse, he has a bruised leg stump which means he cannot use his prosthesis or crutches.

Michal is in the care of national cycling team doctors at Motol hospital in Prague. Recovery will not be easy and is estimated to take two months. Starting in the World Championships in Roskilde is out of the question.

Michal was riding his new Apache road bike, which he had for just two weeks in preparation for the World Championships. The bike was completely wrecked.

The accident is being investigated by the Czech police. The case is very sad - the car driver had no licence and, apparently, had been banned from driving for health reasons four years ago.
